Tensleon Ranch is nestled in the rolling hills surrounding New Ulm, Texas about equal distance between Houston and Austin. Only a dozen miles north of Interstate 10, New Ulm is also a convenient drive from San Antonio and the Hill Country.

Tensleon Ranch was founded in April of 2004 by Tensel and Leon Leach. After studying different breeds of cattle, they decided to raise Butler Longhorns more for their reputation as being the longest horned of the longhorns, their colorful heritage both as one of the seven surviving families of longhorns and from their affiliation with the equally colorful Butler family from League City, Texas, their graceful conformation and their colorful offspring. Plus, longhorns raise themselves. After generations of roaming the Texas plains and prairies, surviving from cattle brought to the new world by the Spanish Conquistadors, Butler Longhorns require very little human intervention.

Yet, Butler Longhorns enjoy human companionship. All of the calves born or weaned on Tensleon Ranch are individually halter trained by the President of Tensleon Ranch, Tensel Leach. Some are so docile that they walk by your side, much as a favorite pet dog trained to heal. They all will eat ranch cubes from your hand and are approachable in the field.

Calves raised on Tensleon Ranch have a proven pedigree that traces back to cattle owned by Milby Butler. They are Real Butler Longhorns with no blended or mixed breeding from other families as often seen with the so called "straight" Butler longhorns. Or, better yet, purchase a copy of Don Limb’s authoritative but easy to read book, The Real Butler Story at www.limbcattle.com.

Come visit us in historic New Ulm just a few miles south of Industry, Texas, the first German settlement in Texas. Enjoy walking the mile and a half trail around the back woods. Discover the hidden lake in the woods, enjoy the whirl of a wind mill keeping the catfish pond topped off with water or sitting on the covered dock jutting out into the ten acre lake. In the evening after dinner at the Texas Star Café only two miles away, settle in on the covered porch of the 1895 one room school house and enjoy a good book. Or, just take a leisurely walk under the numerous live oak trees that are so prominent on the ranch. Just be careful that one of our Butler Longhorns do not pick your pocket of that ranch cube you’ve hidden away for them.
